Portraiture is a very old art form going back at least to ancient Egypt, where it flourished from about 5,000 years ago. Before the invention of photography a painted, sculpted, or drawn portrait was the only way to record the appearance of someone.
Now, the world is flooded with selfies, memes and gifs until it seems the majority of pictures on social media are designed to be viewed only fleetingly on the way to the next piece of virtual imagery.
I love my iPhone and use it a lot to record the natural world around me, but when it comes to people, my preference is for a more studied piece of work, nearly always shot in a studio and processed in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
You can see a sample of my Portraiture here.
