Simon was playing the guitar in this shot, concentrating on his music. I had asked him to roll a spliff (with ordinary tobacco!) and he had huffed and puffed to give me enough smoke to get the effect I wanted. He wasn’t stoned, but I did wonder how he knew to roll the spliff.

In this photograph, Heather was just 16 years old and had ambitions to be a model. She had lovely, long hair and we spent a bit of time flinging it about. I did attempt to add snakes to her hair and failed miserably, so she survived as an As Seen.

I loved the severity of Liv’s high fringe and the flowers on her face set against the dramatic red of her hair. Posing her against a black door and allowing her hair to flow out of the frame resulted in a shot with quite a bit of drama.

If Only …
Rachelle is a professional model, whom I have shot quite a few times. She is expert at creating poses in response to a few words of explanation and, although I have created many Altered Reality pictures with her images, I felt the simplicity of this one required no further work.

Lost in Thought
Tanya is another professional model and has a wide repertoire of set poses, which I wanted to get away from. This shot came from a moment when she was relaxing between shots. I was struck by the unguarded look on her face and quickly fired off a few frames.
